Food and Drink Puerto Rico

Puerto Rican cooking is said to be in the middle of Spanish and Mexican, like everywhere they have traditional meals they are well known for such as bacalaitos (cod fritters), frijoles negros (famous black bean soup), that’s just the starters!  It would take a long time to list all the well known Puerto Rican dishes.  One thing that that I loved when I visited Puerto Rico was the food, I’m a big meat eater and they have some of the best steaks and all were cooked to perfection.  They are not badly priced over there as well and there are so many restaurants to choose from it wouldn’t be possible to try them all whilst you’re over there.  All along the beach front there are places to eat and drink each one offering you something free to try to entice you in.  A general rule I go for is what the place looks like rather then what they are offering free (although the price plays a big factor too).

San Juan has become the most popular within Puerto Rico for its cuisine where some of the greatest chefs come together to prepare and make the famous dishes Puerto Rico has gone down in history for.  A lot of the food is based around rice and beans, its amazing how many variations you can make adding different pieces of meat, fish and vegetables with a nice home made sauce full of spices and herbs.  Be sure to check before you buy your “ordinary” drinks as the coffee over there is very strong (black or served with heated milk) so it may not be everyone’s taste.

A good way of finding the best places is once you know where you’re staying is to have a quick look on the internet for guide of that area which will recommend the finest places to eat and drink.
